Once Upon A Time - Rutlands Then and Now
I bought this property as a long neglected farm with nothing but an old farmhouse in need of repair, and 65 acres of old rusted out barbed wire fencing laying half buried in the compacted earth. Slowly but surely I developed it from the ground up, always with the view of transforming it into heaven on earth for the dogs, Quarter horses, black Angus cattle and Dorper sheep. What joy, to eventually see the gardens growing and blooming before my eyes, and the old house renovated to welcome many overseas visitors to stay while in Australia. I hardly noticed the sweat, back aches and bruised knuckles along the way.
NOW - 2021
These days the setting is a humble little cottage on three natural acres in rural NSW where the dogs have plenty of room to run and play when they are not inside.

Today, in 2021, Rutlands comprises a small group of breeding dogs with diverse bloodlines, who enjoy an intimate lifestyle with Beverley and a supportive small team of dedicated male and female helpers. A few of our breeding dogs live pampered lives with approved foster families and come back to us to honeymoon, raise their puppies or just for a visit.
Puppies are born and raised during their early weeks, in the indoors puppy nursery beside my office, with their own heating and cooling, to experience the usual household activities of people coming and going, noisy vacuuming, watching TV and lots of love and cuddling....who could resist?
Puppies transition gradually to outside where they have the room to run and play in the fresh country air and explore in the adventure playground.

What hasn't changed and never will, is that the dogs and puppies always come first. Rutlands' holistic approach also remains constant with a minimum of chemicals used, and a wholesome natural, biologically appropriate diet for dogs and puppies. At Rutlands we hope our puppy goodbyes are only temporary and that you will keep us updated with your pictures and stories on our FB pages!
Do I miss the splendor of times gone by? Yes, sometimes. But my beloved dogs and I have survived the 3 years in hiding from animal activist threats, and I've learned what's most important in life. My dogs are happy and their puppies still bring joy to the team and myself and to families across the world. And, no matter how humble, there is truly, no place quite like home. Love to all, Beverley |
